TANGERANG SOUTH - The Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) sealed the warehouse storing chemical pesticides owned by PT BS in the Tekno Park area, South Tangerang, following a fire incident that had an impact on the pollution of the Cisadane River.
The sealing was carried out as a handling step as well as an investigation into alleged environmental violations.
Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said that his party together with the police had conducted a direct review at the location to ensure a quick handling of the case.
"I and the Police Chief have reviewed this case. The police have also taken quick steps to handle this incident," said Hanif in Tangerang, Antara, Friday, February 13.
In addition to sealing the warehouse suspected of being the source of pollution, the KLH/BPLH will conduct a thorough evaluation of the case. The government also ordered the area managers to conduct an environmental audit as part of the government's coercive sanctions, both to the area managers and to the related companies.
"Not only that, we ordered the area managers to conduct a thorough environmental audit. This audit is part of the government's coercive sanctions," explained Hanif.
He added, the KLH/BPLH law enforcement team (Gakkum) had conducted research and field checks. The initial results found that there was contamination of pesticide liquid flowing from the Jeletreng River to the Cisadane River with an affected area of about 22.5 kilometers, covering the areas of South Tangerang City, Tangerang City, and Tangerang Regency.
KLH/BPLH has also inspected the warehouse owned by PT BS and asked for information from the company's management and employees as part of the investigation process.
"Technically and administratively, we will order the area managers to conduct a precise environmental audit to determine the necessary steps," he said.
As a follow-up, KLH/BPLH will immediately take steps to rehabilitate or temporarily restore the environment exposed to chemical pesticides.
"We will immediately carry out temporary recovery to prevent continued exposure," said Hanif.
