JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali said that the new Italian-made ship, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, will arrive in early April 2026.
"KRI Prabu Siliwangi has left yesterday, then because it goes through the African route, circling Africa, so it may arrive in Indonesia in early April," said Ali at a press conference at the Puspomal Headquarters, North Jakarta, Thursday, February 12, reported by ANTARA.
Ali said the ship built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri was manned by TNI AL personnel who had previously undergone training in Italy.
Before departing from Italy to Indonesia, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 had carried out several exercises and firing tests in the Italian sea.
All the trials and exercises were said to have been successful.
Ali continued, after arriving in Indonesia, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is expected to join the Navy ship of the same type and shipyard origin, KRI Brawijaya-320 in Koarmada II.
Previously, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 conducted a 127 mm cannon firing test at the Nevale Della Base, Spezia, Italy, Tuesday (27/1).
The exercise was carried out to prepare the combat capabilities of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 before departing for Indonesia.
The Head of the TNI AL Information Service (Kadispenal) First Admiral TNI Tunggul when confirmed in Jakarta, Thursday, said the firing of the 127 mm cannon was carried out to ensure the strength and response of the ship's structure to the load and vibration due to the firing.
"This effort also verifies the readiness of the weapon system from the mechanical, electrical, and safety aspects," said Tunggul.
This activity, said Tunggul, was also a trial of the first firing of the 127 mm cannon as part of the testing of the weapon system and the ship's structure.
The test fire was a sign that for the first time the TNI AL warship operated a cannon with a Large Caliber Gun category (caliber above 120 mm) operationally, after previously weapons of the same class had been operated on the Fatahillah class corvette.
Tunggul said the cannon firing test procession also went successfully because each step was carried out according to the predetermined safety and security procedures.
