JAKARTA - The police are hunting for the perpetrators of the theft of road marking nails that can reflect light (cat's eyes) on the lane divider around the underpass in the Cawang area, East Jakarta.

"Regarding the case of stealing cat eyes, it has been further investigated, looking for the culprit," said Makasar Police Chief Kompol Sumardi after checking the crime scene (TKP) in Cawang, East Jakarta, Wednesday.

The action is known to have occurred on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 in the early morning and went viral on social media. Until now, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has not made an official report regarding the incident.

In fact, he said, the report was needed as a basis for further legal proceedings.

"So far, the Provincial Government has not made a report. Later we will convey it so that they can immediately make a report so that we can follow up," said Sumardi.

Although there have been no reports, the police are still conducting checks on the ground. This step was taken after the video of the theft of cat eyes at the location went viral on social media.

"We check because this is also viral. Don't let us not know the truth," he said.

Regarding the development of the investigation, his party is still conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover the identity and motives of the perpetrators. The police are also still tracing surveillance camera footage circulating on social media.

"Now it is still being deepened, we are still looking for the perpetrator. For the motive, we are still investigating, because his face is covered," said Sumardi.

Until now, the police have not been able to determine the number of cat eyes that were stolen. Officers are still checking at the scene to find out the losses incurred.

"For the number of people taken, we are still checking back at the crime scene. We can't estimate it yet," said Sumardi.
