Pahandut Police, Central Kalimantan, arrested a man with the initials AG (39) who was suspected of being a fraudster with the modus of Al-Quran donations.

"This disclosure was successful with the help of residents who secured the perpetrator and then handed him over to the Pahandut Police," said the Head of the Pahandut Police, AKP Iyudi Hartanto, Monday, February 9, reported by ANTARA.

From the results of the examination, the perpetrator, who is a resident of Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta Special Region, launched his action in Palangka Raya City since 2024.

The perpetrator carried out his actions by taking advantage of religious sentiments. He offered a donation program and the procurement of the Qur'an to the community.

However, after the victim handed over some money, the perpetrator did not realize the promised assistance and chose to disappear.

"From the results of the examination, the money received by the suspect was not used for social activities as conveyed to the victim, but for personal interests," he said.

Iyudi revealed that investigators had information from five victims who were in the Palangka Raya City area, especially in Langkai and Pahandut villages. From the five victims, the total loss amounted to IDR 3.6 million.

Currently, the suspected perpetrator has been detained at the Pahandut Police Sub-district Detention Center to undergo further legal proceedings.

"Investigators are still developing the case to trace the possibility of other victims who have not reported," he said.

Iyudi appealed to the public to be more careful and not easily believe in requests for donations or alms from parties who do not have clarity of identity and legality.
