KUDUS - The Kudus Regency Education, Youth and Sports Office (Disdikpora), Central Java, has proposed assistance to the central government for the repair of 58 schools from the play group (KB) to SMP which were damaged due to extreme weather with high intensity rain.

"The affected schools are dominated by elementary schools. The rest are KB, TK, and SMP," said the Head of the Basic Education Section of the Kudus Regency Education and Sports Office, Anggun Nugroho, quoted by Antara, Monday, February 9.

He detailed that out of a total of 58 schools that were damaged, 52 schools were elementary schools, one KB school, three kindergartens, and two junior high schools.

According to Anggun, the level of damage to each school varies, ranging from mild to moderate. As for the budget for repairs, the process is still in the process of counting and will be submitted after the preparation of the detailed engineering design (DED) or work drawings are completed.

The proposal for school repair assistance has been submitted to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) because the school damage occurred due to natural disasters.

"We have submitted our proposal to BNPB, considering that the damage to school buildings is directly related to extreme weather disasters," he said.

In addition, the problem of damaged schools has also been reported to the Kudus Regent, Sam'ani Intakoris. The report was submitted in January 2026 as a follow-up to handling the impact of extreme weather in the education sector.

The report explained that on March 10-12, 2025, heavy rains hit Kudus Regency, causing a number of schools to be affected by floods, landslides, and building damage.

As a first step, the Kudus Education and Sports Office has identified the needs of the affected schools, as well as drafted instructions for handling during the event and after the disaster so that learning activities can continue.

"Hopefully, the assistance from the center can be realized immediately so that school repairs can be carried out and educational activities can run safely and comfortably," he said.
