JAKARTA - The White House plans to host a leaders' meeting (summit) of the Gaza Peace Council (BoP) on February 19 to encourage the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza and raise funds for the reconstruction of the Palestinian territories affected by the war.

"(The opportunity) will be the first meeting of the Peace Council (BoP) as well as a fundraising conference for the reconstruction of Gaza," Axios wrote, quoting a US official as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, February 7.

According to the report, the administration of President Donald Trump has begun contacting dozens of countries to invite leaders and discuss logistical aspects. The meeting is planned to take place at the Institute of Peace, Washington.

"Nothing has been confirmed, but the government is planning it and is starting to check which leaders can attend," a source told Axios.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump on February 18, a day before the meeting is scheduled to take place. Netanyahu has accepted Trump's invitation for Israel to join the council, but has not yet signed its charter.

If Netanyahu attends the meeting, it will be his first public appearance with Arab and Muslim leaders since before the October 7 attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, as well as Israel's subsequent offensive into the Gaza Strip.

The plan for the summit is still in its early stages and could change. The White House declined to comment.
