JEMBER - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Operation (Daop) 9 Jember ensures that all train journeys passing through the Pasuruan to Banyuwangi area, East Java, remain safe after the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that shook Pacitan on Friday morning, February 7.

"The earthquake was felt in our operational area, so KAI Daop 9 Jember immediately took quick and measured steps to ensure the safety of train travel and the safety of railway infrastructure," said KAI Daop 9 Jember Legal and Public Relations Manager Cahyo Widiantoro in Jember, Antara, Friday, February 6.

Cahyo explained, shortly after the earthquake was felt, the Railway Control Center (Pusdal KA) Daop 9 Jember immediately coordinated with all related units, including field officers and the Head of the Technical Implementation Unit of Rail and Bridge Roads (KUPT JJ) in the Daop 9 Jember region.

As a preventive measure, all train journeys passing through the area were temporarily suspended to wait for the results of an inspection of the infrastructure after the earthquake.

The trains that were temporarily stopped were the Mutiara Timur train, which was in the Ketapang-Surabaya Pasarturi relationship, and the Blambangan Express train, which was in the Pasar Senen-Ketapang relationship. Both trains were stopped at Klakah Station to wait for the results of a thorough check of the railway line, bridges, and other supporting infrastructure.

"The results of the field inspection were completed at 02.15 WIB. All crossings in the Daop 9 Jember area were declared in a safe and operational condition," said Cahyo.

After being declared safe, the train journey resumed. KA 210 Mutiara Timur was dispatched again from Klakah Station at 01.33 WIB with a delay of about 10 minutes, while KA 147 Blambangan Express departed at 01.31 WIB with a similar delay.

Cahyo emphasized that the safety of train travel is KAI's top priority. Therefore, any potential disruption, including due to natural disasters, will always be responded to by implementing strict safety procedures in accordance with operational standards.

He appealed to customers and the public to remain calm, not easily influenced by unverified information, and to follow official information provided by KAI through official communication channels.

"The temporary suspension of travel is solely to ensure mutual safety. KAI Daop 9 Jember is committed to providing safe, reliable, and safety-first services," said Cahyo.
