BADUNG - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has started to activate sanctions regarding violations of waste management based on Law Number 18 of 2008 to hotel, restaurant, and cafe (horeka) business actors in Bali.
"We are not hesitant to operationalize Law Number 18 of 2008, today we have issued administrative sanctions against the government to 150 horekas to solve their own garbage within three months," said Minister of LH Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Friday, February 6.
The Minister of LH said that the implementation of sanctions for violations of waste management would continue to be tightened by listing 1,400 horekas registered in Bali.
"This is because all tourism business units are required to solve their own waste, later under the coordination of the governor and regent and mayor," said Minister Hanif.
Regarding the 150 horekas who have received administrative sanctions, the Minister of LH ordered business actors to manage their waste within three months.
Otherwise, a warning will be given in the form of a suspension of environmental approval or the imposition of criminal sanctions, such as the charge in Article 114, which is a 1-year prison sentence.
"So yes, we force everything, including our regent/mayor, to solve the garbage, allocate as much funds under the direction of the governor, I have warned that the legal process does not know anyone," said the Minister of LH.
In addition to the horeka in Bali, KLH activates Law Number 18 of 2008 to all parties who do not carry out good waste management.
Based on the title of the case, he continued, the ministry, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office agreed to operationalize the implementation of the law in its entirety, including its legal aspects.
"So starting today, the government will directly oversee the handling of waste management in all districts/cities without exception," said Minister Hanif.
To the regional government in Bali, the Minister of LH also reminded that minor criminal offenses could be enforced so that no one would be arbitrary in handling garbage.
This step is a direction from President Prabowo who has reminded the condition of Indonesia which is already a waste emergency so that it can be resolved as soon as possible.
