JAKARTA - Personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra (Sumsel), continue to work to open access to the provincial road in Sungai Are District which was covered by landslides, so that vehicle traffic flows will return to normal.

Head of the South OKU BPBD Indra Gunawan in Muaradua, Thursday, said the heavy rainfall that occurred on Tuesday (3/2) afternoon caused landslides in four points in the Sungai Are District.

The landslide occurred in four points, namely on the Sadau Jaya Village road to Ujan Mas Village which borders Bengkulu Province.

"For landslides in the other three points, namely in Pulau Kemuning Village, they have been evacuated since Wednesday (4/2) afternoon," he said, quoted by Antara.

He said the process of evacuating landslide material in Sadau Jaya Village is still ongoing, by deploying dozens of BPBD OKU South personnel.

The joint team in the field, he said, is still struggling to clean up the landslide material using heavy equipment so that the evacuation process can be carried out quickly and optimally.

"Until this afternoon, the evacuation process of the landslide in Sadau Jaya Village is in the stage of lighting, so that the road access can be immediately passed by two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles as before," he said.

On this occasion, he again reminded the public to remain vigilant in the face of extreme weather that has the potential to cause the impact of flooding and landslides.

"Especially for drivers, we remind them to be more careful when crossing the hilly roads prone to landslides, especially when it rains," said Indra Gunawan.
