JAKARTA - The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said, President Prabowo Subianto gave instructions to sharpen research that could solve community problems, such as the problem of waste.
"The President's decision for us to sharpen research that can immediately help the problems faced by the community, one of which is for example regarding household waste handling, environmental waste," said Prasetyo as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 5.
He said there were various research products that could solve the problem of waste, ranging from household to village scale. He hopes that this innovation can be a real solution in dealing with waste problems.
In looking at this problem, he continued, there are levels or levels that must be considered, namely the micro scale such as household waste, the same RT and RW, to the village. At the macro scale, there is waste at the city level with a larger volume.
One of the plans being prepared by the government is the implementation of 34 waste to energy projects or converting waste into energy as a step to overcome the problem of waste accumulation while meeting the national electricity energy needs.
President Prabowo Subianto said the projects would enter the initial phase of implementation.
According to the President, the waste to energy project is very important considering that the waste problem in big cities has accumulated in an alarming amount.
The accumulation of garbage is also said to have the potential to cause environmental disasters if it is not immediately addressed.
Through the waste to energy project, said the President, waste is not only cleaned from urban areas, but also used as a source of electric energy that will benefit the community.
"The waste to energy program which is planned to be implemented immediately in 34 districts is the location where the amount of waste production has exceeded one thousand tons a day. When the scale is that big, then the type of equipment that must be built is certainly different (from the micro one)," said Mensesneg.
In this context, technologies that can solve the problem as quickly as possible are needed.
Prasetyo sees that solving the waste problem must be carried out at every level integrated with a focus on two main aspects, namely adaptive technology such as building an incinerator that is in accordance with the waste capacity in a certain area, and sorting education for the community so that the waste to energy program runs optimally.
"So the solution to waste is not just the form of building the incinerator, but education is also one of the keys," he said.
