JAKARTA - The Tangerang City DPRD has asked the local Food Security Agency (DKP) to prepare anticipatory steps to face the potential for extreme weather that is expected to occur in the first three months of the year. This step is considered important to ensure that the target for rice harvest does not fail.

The Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Tangerang City DPRD, Holiludin, emphasized the need for a mature mitigation strategy, especially in strengthening assistance to farmers, irrigation system management, and the readiness of agricultural facilities and infrastructure.

"We ask the DKP together to prepare mitigation strategies ranging from strengthening farmer assistance, irrigation management, to the readiness of agricultural facilities and infrastructure. That way, the production target can still be achieved even though it is faced with uncertain weather conditions," said Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Tangerang City DPRD, Holiludin, in a statement in Tangerang, as quoted by ANTARA.

Holiudin added that the DPRD is committed to continuing to monitor policies and budgets related to the agricultural sector. With this escort, it is hoped that the production target that has been set will be achieved and contribute to food security, both at the regional and national levels.

"We also carry out supervision so that all agricultural programs run effectively, are targeted, and provide real benefits for farmers and the community at large," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Tangerang City DKP, Muhdorun, conveyed the production target of Dry Rice Harvest (GKP) in 2026 reached 846 tons of rice or equivalent to 1,692 tons of GKP which came from an agricultural area of 98 hectares.

He explained that farmers' groups would be encouraged to be able to harvest up to three times a year to increase the intensification and productivity of rice in Tangerang City.

"The Tangerang City Government hopes that the self-sufficiency of rice that is being intensified can contribute greatly to creating stability in rice commodities, especially in the City of Tangerang in the long term," he said.

The Mayor of Tangerang, Sachrudin, said that the City of Tangerang has the potential for 98 hectares of agricultural land, with the support of 13 farmers' groups and 113 women farmers' groups (KWT).

As a form of support for farmers, the Tangerang City Government has distributed various agricultural facilities assistance, ranging from tractors, water pumps, to loans for rice field processing equipment.

"In addition to the assistance, we also repaired the irrigation channels that were problematic, in the hope that even in the dry season, farmers will still be able to produce maximum crops," he said.
