JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) encourages the resolution of global conflicts, world peace, and the Palestinian issue, through strengthening the role of the United Nations framework.

Secretary of the PDI P, Hasto Kristiyanto, emphasized that Indonesia must remain based on the principle of free foreign policy in the midst of the dynamic international political constellation.

"We as a free nation have a great ambition to build a new world order," he said, when met in Jakarta, Saturday.

He emphasized that the PDI Perjuangan's attitude was very firm in referring to the principle that independence is the right of all nations.

Independence, he said, is the foundation of Indonesia's foreign policy, so it should not bind itself, except to side with independence as the right of all nations.

He reminded the mandate of the First National Working Meeting of the PDI P which was very firm in upholding international law and the constitution.

He cited the Party's attitude towards various foreign interventions which were considered contrary to the principle of independence.

Furthermore, he emphasized that Indonesia has a historical responsibility to become a leader for the nations in the south.

Compared to just following the scheme made by big countries, according to him, Indonesia should have emphasized its influence through strategic blocks that have existed since the era of President Soekarno.

"The attitude of the PDI Perjuangan is to encourage all peace efforts through the UN. We must strengthen the international system that is more just and peaceful," he said.

He argues that Indonesia needs to rebuild the solidarity of Asian, African, and Latin American nations. Thus, Indonesia's leadership in the region must be highlighted.

He emphasized Indonesia's consistency in fighting for the rights of oppressed nations, including Palestine, is a test for Indonesia's foreign policy integrity in the eyes of the world.

For the PDI P, he continued, the sovereignty of a nation cannot be compromised by the interests of certain political alliances that ignore international law.
