JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arif Havas Oegroseno said Indonesia should build a strategic alliance with global partners, when it held the Semiconductor Summit for the first time.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MOI) fully supports the implementation of the Indonesia Semiconductor Summit (ISS) 2026 by the Indonesia Chip Design Collaborative Center (ICDeC) at the ITB Innovation Park, Bandung, on 29-30 January 2026.

As the first international forum in Indonesia in the field of semiconductors, ISS 2026 is expected to create strategic alliances between Indonesian semiconductor stakeholders to accelerate the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in the country.

In the opening session, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas emphasized that Indonesia's economic diplomacy in the semiconductor sector will focus on the formation of international partnerships.

"Indonesia needs to build strategic alliances with global and regional partners to accelerate the development of the national semiconductor industry," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas, launching a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday (30/1).

The cooperation in question, continued the Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas, is crucial in facilitating technology transfer and securing Indonesia's position on the world technology map.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, in his keynote speech explained the great opportunity for the development of the Indonesian semiconductor industry.

With the first ranking of Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) in ASEAN, Indonesia has a very large domestic market potential, especially in the mobile phone and electric vehicle (EV) sectors.

The Minister of Industry also emphasized the government's strategy to encourage the development of silica smelter infrastructure to ensure the independence of raw materials and strengthen Indonesia's position in the global value chain.

The importance of collaboration was also conveyed by the Rector of ITB, Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara, and Chairman of ICDeC, Prof. Trio Adiono, who emphasized the importance of synergy between academics and industry in creating technology innovations that have national impact.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Research and Technology, Dr. Fauzan Adziman, explained the national strategy for the preparation of Semiconductor Human Resources (SDM), which focuses on continuous research and the creation of expert talent in the field of chip design.

ISS 2026 presents semiconductor stakeholders from various backgrounds, including government, private sector, and academics. Speakers at ISS 2026 also come from within and outside the country, including from Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Malaysia, Japan, as well as representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The first day of ISS 2026 was filled with speaker presentations, while the second day was filled with semiconductor ecosystem development workshops focused on technology transfer efforts, human capital development, and strengthening the industry supply chain.

This forum is a tangible step for Indonesia in transforming itself into a key player in the world semiconductor industry.
