JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant in Rorotan may not be closed even though it often receives protests from local residents.

When visiting the Roci Rabbit Park in Cilincing, North Jakarta, a resident even approached Pramono and conveyed his complaints directly related to the Rorotan RDF.

"So, this RDF is frankly not built in my era. The cost is quite high. If I close it, this problem is even more complicated, it's impossible," said Pramono as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 30.

He also admitted that he had met residents living around the Rorotan RDF twice to listen to their complaints and discuss them together.

However, if asked to close the Rorotan RDF, Pramono emphasized that he could not do it.

According to him, the main source of the problem that causes the smell around the area is because the garbage transport is leaking.

"For RDF Rorotan, the main problem is indeed transportation. So, now, once the transportation is carried out, there is a flood of water, nets, this is what then causes the community's protest. While Rorotan itself has been commissioned repeatedly, it is relatively not a problem," said Pramono.

Therefore, he asked that a new fleet be procured to support the operation of the RDFPlantRorotan.

In 2025, the DKI Jakarta Environment Service has 148 closed compactor truck fleets ready to transport garbage to the RDF Plant Rorotan facility to ensure that garbage transportation has minimal impact on the urban environment.

Of the 148 compactory truck fleets owned, 97 truck units are the result of procurement in the 2024 Fiscal Year, while the other 51 units are the result of procurement in the 2025 Fiscal Year.

In the future, Pramonose firmly prohibits old garbage transport vehicles from operating.

In addition, he also asked that the RDF Rorotan stop operating for a while.

"Hopefully, this will be able to overcome the waste transportation problem that exists in Rorotan," said Pramono.
