BOGOR - The public in the Bogor, Depok, and Jakarta regions are urged to increase their vigilance following the increase in the Ciliwung River's water level (TMA) at the Katulampa Dam, which reached 120 centimeters (cm) or was in the Jakarta flood alert status 3, Thursday, January 29.

The increase in water discharge occurred after heavy rain hit the Bogor area and the Ciliwung upstream from morning to evening.

Based on the report of supervisory officers at Bendung Katulampa, at 19.25 WIB TMA was recorded at 120 cm. This surge was triggered by evenly distributed rainfall, especially in the Puncak, Cisarua, and surrounding areas which are the main water catchment areas of the Ciliwung River.

Head of the Bendung Katulampa Supervisory Agency, Andi Sudirman, said that previously the water condition was still within normal limits. However, heavy rainfall in the afternoon and evening caused a significant increase in a short time.

"Thursday morning to afternoon, the TMA is still normal below 90 cm. Then it rises drastically during heavy rain, and now it is Alert 3, namely 120 cm," said Andi when confirmed.

He explained the chronology of the water rise. In the morning, the river surface was still normal. The discharge then increased to 60 cm during the day, rising to 80 cm at around 6:00 pm WIB, and continued to increase until it reached 120 cm in the afternoon.

In addition to Katulampa, similar conditions were also observed at the Panus Water Gate, Depok. The TMA at the location was recorded at 210 cm and was in the Alert 3 category.

With this status, Andi estimates that the wave of water shipments from upstream will move towards the downstream area of Jakarta in the next 10 to 12 hours.

A number of areas along the Ciliwung flow are potentially affected, ranging from upstream areas such as Cisarua and Bogor, then Depok, to the East Jakarta and South Jakarta areas. Vulnerable points of flooding include river banks in the Lenteng Agung area, Kampung Melayu, Bidara Cina, Cawang, to Kalibata.

"If the rain in the upstream continues, the discharge can rise again. Residents along the Ciliwung banks are asked to be on alert because the incoming water usually reaches Jakarta quickly," he said.

Residents in low-lying areas and around river streams are urged to monitor official information from officers and be prepared to anticipate the possibility of flooding or flooding from upstream.
