JAKARTA - The search and rescue operation for victims of a landslide in Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, has again yielded results. On the sixth day of the operation, the joint SAR team found three victims who were evacuated in body bags.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said the latest discovery added to the number of victims who had been handed over to the disaster victim identification (DVI) team.

"The joint SAR team managed to evacuate 3 victims in a body bag in the search and rescue operation for the landslide victims in Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency on the sixth day," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Thursday, January 29.

Abdul Muhari explained that since the first day of the search, a total of 56 bags of bodies had been handed over to the DVI team for further identification.

Abdul Muhari added that not all the body bags contained intact bodies. Some were pieces of body parts, so the identification process required further investigation.

"The body bag that was handed over to the DVI team can be in the form of a body part so that it needs to be deepened to identify," he said.

The landslide victim found today is in sectors A1 and B1. To speed up the search, the SAR team continues to strengthen equipment in the field, including heavy equipment and tracking dogs.

BNPB noted that at least 15 excavators had been deployed to support search and rescue operations. Even though the weather is still often hit by light to moderate rain, the search efforts continue.

"The weather conditions, which are still sometimes raining with light to moderate intensity, are a challenge for the joint SAR team," he said.

However, Abdul Muhari emphasized that this condition did not discourage the search efforts. To date, the number of personnel involved in the joint SAR team has reached 3,229 people.

Based on the data of the DVI Team, as of Wednesday, January 28 at 22.00 WIB, a total of 40 bodies of landslide victims have been successfully identified. The bodies that have been identified have been handed over directly to the family.

It is estimated that there are still 24 victims who have not been found. The process of identifying the body bags that have been handed over to the DVI team is still ongoing, in line with the plan for the continuation of the search operation.

"The search process will resume tomorrow morning by combing sector A and sector B," he said.
