JAKARTA - The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto stated that East Aceh is now entering the emergency transition phase towards recovery, marking a change in disaster management without stopping assistance, accompaniment, and the active presence of the central government during that period.

"So we inform that today East Aceh has entered the emergency transition phase towards recovery," said Suharyanto when met on the sidelines of the symbolic handover of the Waiting for Housing Fund (DTH) and temporary housing (huntara) in Gampong (Village) Pante Labu, Pante Bidari District, East Aceh, Thursday, January 29, reported by ANTARA.

He conveyed that the emergency transition for three months was emphasized not as the end of the problem, because the affected community still received full support from the state while the rehabilitation and reconstruction process was gradual, measurable, and sustainable on a national scale.

"The emergency transition does not mean that the problem is over, the disaster has been overcome, it is not like that," he said.

He said the central government had formed a Task Force (satgas) for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction which would coordinate cross-ministry work in Sumatra in an integrated, planned, responsive, fast, and effective manner.

In the Task Force structure, continued Suharyanto, all Ministries and Institutions (K/L) are required to assist the people of East Aceh, ensuring that policies, budgets, and field actions are interconnected for comprehensive recovery.

Furthermore, he said that infrastructure conditions such as roads and bridges are now back in emergency connection. The central government has also prepared permanent construction which is targeted to be better than before the disaster hit the region gradually, measured, and quality.

"Of course this takes time, it goes on," he said.

He also emphasized that the current progress shows a significant change compared to a month ago, although he acknowledged that the recovery is not yet complete and still requires time, patience, and joint work with all related parties, on an ongoing basis.

"But we have to be objective, if compared to the current condition with a month ago, I am sure there have been many changes like that. Is it finished? Not yet, it's still far away. That's why the transition was set by all of us for three months (in the future)," said BNPB Head Suharyanto.
