JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that he had found a solution to disperse the queue of thousands of fishing boats that were confused at the Muara Angke Port. Currently, the port capacity is far behind the number of ships based.
Pramono said the DKI Provincial Government plans to increase the capacity of the port so that it can accommodate hundreds of additional ships. The expansion is expected to be carried out in the near future as a medium-term solution to the problem of density in Muara Angke.
"The DKI Jakarta government will immediately expand the existing port at that location by increasing capacity. Hopefully we will be able to build it in the near future to increase up to 500 or 600 ships. That's the maximum," said Pramono in Cawang, East Jakarta, Thursday, January 29.
He explained that currently the capacity of the Muara Angke Port is only around 400 to 500 ships. However, the less friendly weather conditions make many fishing boats not go to sea and eventually lean together in the port.
"Now because of the weather conditions, many ships are not sailing. And most of them are then parked there," he said.
The problem becomes more complicated because the number of ships that have permission to be based far exceeds the capacity of the port. Pramono said that the ship permits issued by the central government through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) have reached more than 2,500 units.
The former Cabinet Secretary also asked that there be no addition of new ship permits based in Muara Angke.
"I convey and ask that there be no new additions to the ship. Because if the ship's permit is added more than, now it is 2,500, it will definitely be a burden for Muara Angke," said Pramono.
The Nusantara Fisheries Port (PPN) Muara Angke in Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, has recently become the focus of public attention after a video showing thousands of fishing boats piling up and hindering each other's movement circulated on social media.
The condition of the unorganized queue of boats made it difficult for the boats to enter and exit the port smoothly, so that the activities of fishermen were disrupted.
Data from the central government shows that there are more than 2,500 registered ships based in Muara Angke, far exceeding the capacity of the available port basins. These ships are not only active loading and unloading ships, but also those that stop for administration and logistics filling, so that the port space is crowded.
