JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that some areas in East Java Province were experiencing drought despite the high intensity of rain still occurring in other areas.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that drought occurred in Klekean, Botolinggo, Bondowoso Regency due to the decrease in rainfall in recent times in the area.
"This condition causes the rice fields to not receive adequate water supply so that the land becomes dry and has an impact on the residents' agricultural activities," he said in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday.
BNPB confirmed the data received stating that the drought had an impact on 149 families.
However, Abdul ensured that the BPBD Bondowoso Regency rapid response team had intensively distributed clean water in recent days to meet the basic needs of affected people.
Meanwhile, the pump system is also being prepared by the local government to irrigate the dry rice fields in Klekean, Botolinggo.
"As a quick response step, together with the local government, we have distributed water," he said.
