JAKARTA - The Minister of Religion (Menag), Nasaruddin Umar said that the establishment and operationalization of the Directorate General of Pesantren is estimated to require a strategic budget of up to Rp. 12.6 trillion.
"The establishment of the Directorate General of Pesantren creates a new strategic budget requirement," said the Minister of Religion during a working meeting with Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.
The Minister of Religion explained that the Directorate General of Pesantren was designed to carry out three main functions as mandated by the Pesantren Law, namely the function of education, religion, and empowerment.
With such a broad scope of duties, adequate funding support is needed so that the Directorate General of Pesantren can optimally carry out its mandate.
The operation of pesantren includes institutional development, improvement of the quality of pesantren education, and strengthening the role of pesantren in the economic independence of the community.
"The pesantren ecosystem which is currently managed by the Directorate General of Islamic Education is held through the education function," he said.
According to him, the establishment of this new echelon I unit is expected to strengthen the governance of pesantren in a more focused, integrated, and sustainable manner, in line with the increasing demands for the role of pesantren in social, religious, and national life.
Previously, in the Raker, the Ministry of Religion proposed an additional budget of Rp. 702.98 billion for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of religious service and religious education facilities that were affected by natural disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
"Natural disasters that have occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have had a significant impact on the continuity of religious life and religious education services," said Menag Nasaruddin Umar.
The Minister of Religion explained that based on the action plan of the Religious Social Affairs Task Force of the Ministry of Religion, a total of 3,207 religious and educational service units were affected.
The number includes 562 madrasahs, 1,033 pesantren, 17 Islamic religious universities (PTKI), 1,593 cross-religious houses of worship, and other religious service units in the affected areas.
According to the Minister of Religion, the impact of the damage has a direct implication on the disruption of the learning process, religious services, and social religious activities of the community.
