Istana: President Prabowo is still considering a replacement for the Minister of Foreign Affairs

JAKARTA - Secretary of State Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto is still considering a replacement for the Deputy Minister of Finance after Thomas Djiwandono officially became the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia.

"Not yet, later in time," said Prasetyo when met at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 28, reported by ANTARA.

Prasetyo conveyed that the position of the Deputy Minister of Finance that was vacant must be filled by someone who was qualified to carry out the duties.

According to him, until now President Prabowo has not decided who will be assigned to the position.

He also emphasized that the inauguration of the Minister of Finance would not be held today. "No," he said.

Previously, the DPR in the plenary meeting approved Thomas Djiwandono as Deputy Governor of the Bank Indonesia for the period 2026-2031 to replace Juda Agung who resigned from his position on January 13, 2026.

After obtaining the approval of the DPR RI, Thomas is then scheduled to attend the inauguration as Deputy Governor of BI in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

Thomas Djiwandono emphasized his commitment to maintaining BI's independence after obtaining the approval of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia to become Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) in the 12th DPR RI Plenary Meeting of the III Session of the 2025-2026 Session.

Thomas expressed his appreciation to the DPR RI, especially the leadership and members of Commission XI of the DPR RI, for the feasibility and appropriateness test process that they have gone through in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

"I would like to thank the DPR and especially the leadership and members of Commission XI who yesterday carried out the fit and proper test process well," said Thomas after a meeting at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (27/1).

He said that all stages of feasibility and suitability tests were carried out by following the applicable mechanisms and rules as part of the constitutional process for filling the position of Deputy Governor of BI.

According to Thomas, the approval of the DPR RI for him was accompanied by a great responsibility to carry out the mandate of the central bank professionally and uphold the principle of independence.
