JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung directly reviewed the dredging process of the Sepak Kembangan River or Uwungan River in the BTN Complex segment, Kembangan District, West Jakarta.

The review was carried out to ensure that dredging was optimal to reduce the risk of flooding and flooding.

Kali Sepak Kembangan is one of the water streams connected to Cengkareng Drain. Dredging is carried out regularly to maintain water capacity, especially ahead of potential increases in rainfall.

"Currently, we are dredging the Sepak Kembangan River, which flows into the Cengkareng Drain, which we also reviewed yesterday. I want to ensure that dredging is optimal because in this location dredging is carried out routinely to maintain the capacity of the river," said Pramono, Monday, January 26.

Technically, the Kali Sepak has a width of about nine meters. However, dredging is only carried out at a width of six meters with a safe distance of 1.5 meters from the edge of the cliff to reduce the risk of landslides. The total dredging plan reaches 7,458 cubic meters along 1,243 meters divided into three segments.

"This dredging aims to maintain the smooth flow of water, considering that the Sepak River is one of the important estuaries that are connected across regions, including to Cengkareng Drain. In addition, dredging is carried out to increase the water holding capacity and overcome sedimentation due to mud and garbage deposits," said Pramono.

According to Pramono, dredging the river is part of a routine mitigation step to reduce the potential for flooding, especially in densely populated areas such as the BTN Kembangan Complex. This step is considered important following the BMKG's warning regarding the potential for high rainfall in the next few days.

He also instructed the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Office to strengthen preventive handling in all areas. Currently, around 200 excavator units have been deployed in five areas of Jakarta to support dredging and channel repair activities.

"Hopefully, the preventive measures we take can reduce the impact of flooding in Jakarta. I have also ordered the implementation of weather modification operations starting tomorrow to reduce the potential for flooding," said Pramono.

In addition to routine dredging, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a medium-term step through the normalization of three main rivers, namely the Ciliwung River, the Krukut River, and the Old Cakung River. The Ciliwung River normalization will be carried out together with the central government, while the other two rivers are targeted to start working this year.

"The normalization of the Ciliwung River will begin immediately with the central government through the construction of dikes. Meanwhile, the normalization of the Krukut River and the Old Cakung River is targeted to begin this year," said Pramono.

The division of the dredging segment of the Sepak Kembangan River includes Segment 1 along 578 meters, Segment 2 along 430 meters, and Segment 3 along 235 meters. Currently, dredging is focused on Segment 1 with a target volume of around 3,468 cubic meters. As of Friday, January 23, the realization of dredging in the segment has reached 2,035 cubic meters.
