JAKARTA - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), is expanding access to internships in Japan by strengthening manpower cooperation with the government of Kagawa Prefecture.
The Head of the Manpower Planning and Development Agency (Barenbang) Kemnaker Anwar Sanusi, in his statement in Jakarta, Saturday, said the cooperation aims to increase the placement and acceptance of Indonesian technical interns to Japan.
"At the same time, ensure the quality of skills, protection of welfare, safety, health, and security of participants during the internship program," said Anwar as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, January 24.
In addition, he conveyed that the cooperation marked by the signing of a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) between the Ministry of Manpower and the Government of Kagawa Prefecture was a concrete step for the government to ensure that internships to Japan were more structured and provided real benefits for interns.
"Through this cooperation, we want to ensure that Indonesian interns leave with competencies that meet industry needs and work in a more organized system and protect them," said Anwar.
In the agreement, both parties agreed to strengthen the process of sending and receiving internship participants, exchanging data and information, cooperation in resolving problems in the field, and facilitating empowerment for technical internship alumni after completing the program.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Kagawa Prefecture Ikeda Toyohito revealed that Indonesian human resources (HR) have an important role in supporting the needs of businesses in his area.
"Therefore, Kagawa Prefecture is opening up opportunities for wider cooperation with Indonesia," said Ikeda.
Currently, there are around 4,000 Indonesian workers working in Kagawa Prefecture. This number includes 1,463 internship participants and 1,161 skilled workers who contribute in various business sectors.
Ikeda said that starting April 2027, the internship system in Japan will be transformed into a training and work system.
This change is expected to make the process of Indonesian workers entering Japan, especially in Kagawa Prefecture, more open.
