JAKARTA - The Regional Public Drinking Water Company Jaya (PAM Jaya) has recorded that the achievement of piped drinking water services in Jakarta has reached more than 80 percent of residents by the end of 2025. This figure is said to exceed the growth of service coverage for 25 years in the previous management cooperation period.
PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin said that by 2026 the company will focus on improving service quality, strengthening infrastructure, and expanding access to piped drinking water to more areas in Jakarta.
Until the end of 2025, PAM Jaya is recorded to serve 1,178,022 customers with a service coverage rate of 80.24 percent. Throughout 2025, the number of new home connections served by piped drinking water reached 206,537 connections.
"This achievement is an important foundation in efforts to expand piped drinking water services evenly. For comparison, in 1998 the coverage of piped drinking water services in Jakarta was recorded at 56.88 percent," Arief told reporters, Friday, January 23.
Arief explained that the increase in service coverage in recent years has been faster than in previous periods. According to him, the growth of piped drinking water services in Jakarta in the last three years shows a significant spike.
"During the 25 years of cooperation between partners from 1998 to 2023, the growth in the coverage of piped drinking water services in Jakarta only increased by about 10.77 percent, while during the 3-year management of PAM Jaya since 2023, the coverage of services increased by 12.59 percent," said Arief.
He emphasized that piped drinking water is seen as a basic need of the community. Therefore, the company's policies and strategies are directed at maintaining a balance between improving services and customer capabilities, while accelerating the fulfillment of piped drinking water access for all residents of Jakarta.
"In 2026, PAM Jaya directs the company's resources to strengthening operations and improving service quality. We strive to ensure that the public continues to receive decent piped drinking water services without adding to customer burdens. Therefore, there is no tariff adjustment this year," said Arief.
In addition, PAM Jaya also carried out internal efficiency, distribution system optimization, and strengthening corporate governance as part of the sustainable transformation agenda.
"Through this step, PAM Jaya hopes to provide added value for customers while supporting the development of an inclusive and sustainable Jakarta," he explained.
Starting in 2025, PAM Jaya will also run a new drinking water connection program for piped water for free for Jakarta residents with a house area of less than 70 square meters. This program is aimed at helping low-income people gain access to piped drinking water directly from the house.
