IMF Praises Indonesian Economy, Prabowo Optimistic about Growth Rate

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto said he was optimistic about Indonesia's economic growth amid global uncertainty, following the praise of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which named Indonesia as a bright spot in the world economy.

This was conveyed by Prabowo in his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday local time. According to him, the IMF's recognition is based on Indonesia's consistent economic performance.

"The IMF recently described Indonesia as a global bright spot with strong economic growth amid a challenging external environment," said Prabowo.

The President explained that over the past decade, Indonesia's economy has grown by more than 5 percent each year. He is also optimistic that this growth rate will increase this year.

In addition to stable economic growth, Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia's macroeconomic indicators remained stable. The inflation rate is in the range of 2 percent. Meanwhile, the government's budget deficit is maintained below 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

According to the President, Indonesia's economic credibility is also reflected in fiscal discipline and consistent debt payment commitments. Indonesia is also considered never to have defaulted on debt obligations.

"International institutions do not praise us for unfounded optimism. They do it because of evidence. They recognize the Indonesian economy is resilient," said the President.

Furthermore, Prabowo said that Indonesia's economic resilience is the result of carefully designed and evidence-based policies.

Therefore, the government is optimistic that Indonesia is not only able to survive in the midst of global turmoil, but also to take advantage of the momentum to accelerate growth.
