JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung expressed his desire to add foreign football players to join the Persija Jakarta football club.

The statement was conveyed by Pramono to the Minister of Youth and Sports who also serves as the General Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, at the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour which showcased the 2026 World Cup trophy at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan.

Pramono said that although Persija is not currently in the top position, he hopes that the Jakarta pride club can perform more competitively and win the title in the upcoming season.

"Jakarta has a club called Persija. Persija, even though it is not ranked one now, but I whisper to Mr. Erick, if allowed, we want to buy more players, so that we can become champions, especially next year," said Pramono, Thursday, January 22.

Pramono assessed that the target was considered important in line with the momentum of Jakarta which will enter its 500th anniversary in 2027. For Pramono, the celebration of 500 years of Jakarta is a strategic moment to present a proud sports achievement from the Kemayoran Tigers.

Pramono also touched on Jakarta's position as a globally competitive city. He wants Jakarta to be known not only as a center of government and economy, but also as a host of various sports events, including international football matches.

"As a global city that is competitive, I really want Jakarta to be used for moments of international match events and Jakarta with ready facilities for that," said Pramono.

He emphasized that in terms of infrastructure, Jakarta is considered not inferior to other cities in the Southeast Asian region. Pramono mentioned a number of stadiums that are currently ready to be used to hold national and international-scale matches.

"Jakarta in Southeast Asia, compared to other countries, its sports facilities, especially football, we are confident that it is not inferior to others. Please try, there is GBK, there is JIS, and so on that are now ready to be used," he explained.
