Cirebon - The Cirebon City Police (Polres), West Java, has revealed a new modus operandi for the circulation of methamphetamine-type narcotics in its area which is packaged using candy wrappers to deceive officers and the community.
"This modus is relatively new in our area, namely methamphetamine is put into candy packaging so that it is not easily recognized," said Cirebon City Police Chief AKBP Eko Iskandar as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 20.
The disclosure of the modus operandi was carried out when the police dismantled the case of the circulation of methamphetamine in the Cirebon City area in January 2026.
According to him, the colorful candy packaging that looks like ordinary consumer goods is used by perpetrators to disguise the package of methamphetamine.
"In this case, we have arrested a suspect with the initials AS who is 23 years old," he said.
From the suspect's hands, officers secured hundreds of packages of methamphetamine that had been ready to be distributed in the city of Cirebon.
The evidence seized was 177 packets of shabu-shabu, with a total gross weight of about 152 grams.
"In addition to narcotics, we seized one unit of silver-colored digital scales and a number of other equipment that was suspected of being used in the circulation of sabu-sabu," he said.
Eko said the suspect not only disguised the methamphetamine with candy wrappers, but also used a paste system in the distribution process.
"In this system, the packaged methamphetamine is placed in a certain location according to the agreed point with the buyer," he said.
The suspect was charged with Article 114 Paragraph (2) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics Jo Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 and/or Article 609 Paragraph (2) Letter A of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustment.
