Again Asleep, the Knife Attacker Who Killed the Mothers in South Sorong Was Arrested by the Police

JAKARTA - The police arrested a suspected perpetrator of stabbing to death a housewife (IRT) in the Aimas District, Sorong Regency, West Papua.

The Sorong Police Chief, AKBP Edwin Parsaoran, said the arrest of the perpetrators of the abduction of a mama-mama was thanks to the intensive cooperation between the Sorong Police and the Maybrat Police in hunting down the alleged perpetrators.

"The arrest was carried out on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, at around 03.37 WIT, in Sisir Village, Saifi District, South Sorong Regency," said AKBP Edwin in Sorong, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

He explained that the suspect with the initials MS had fled after carrying out the stabbing.

Based on information received by the police, the perpetrator was known to have headed to Ayata Village, East Aifat District, Maybrat Regency.

"The personnel of the Sorong Police Criminal Investigation Unit together with the Maybrat Police Criminal Investigation Unit immediately moved to the location, but the suspected perpetrator was not found," he said.

After conducting further investigation and investigation, the joint team again obtained new information regarding the whereabouts of the suspected perpetrator in Sisir Village, Saifi District, South Sorong Regency.

"The team then moved to the location. Upon arrival there, the alleged perpetrator was found sleeping and was immediately secured without resistance," said AKBP Edwin.

After the arrest, the alleged perpetrator of MS was immediately taken to the Sorong Police to undergo further examination and processed according to applicable laws.

The Police Chief emphasized that investigators were still investigating the case to uncover the motive for the stabbing and complete the investigation file.

Previously, the alleged perpetrator of MS was suspected of stabbing a victim, an IRT, at the Catholic Church complex in Aimas District, Sorong Regency, on Sunday, January 19, 2026, when the victim was about to attend mass. As a result of the incident, the victim died.
