Karawang Police, West Java, appealed to the public to be vigilant following the high rainfall that triggered the rise in the flow of the Citarum and Cibeet rivers, which are two major rivers in the local district.

Karawang Police Public Relations Officer, Ipda Cep Wildan, in Karawang, Sunday, said that the current condition of the two major rivers in Karawang, namely the Citarum and Cibeet rivers, is in Alert 1 status.

This is in accordance with the latest data on the Water Level (TMA) which is sourced from Perum Jasa Tirta II, on Sunday at 08.00 WIB.

"The Citarum river TMA is recorded at 12.00 meters above sea level (msl) with Alert 1 status. Meanwhile, the Cibeet river TMA is at 19.30 msl, also with Alert 1 status," he said.

This condition is influenced by the intensity of heavy rain. Since Saturday night (17/1) until Sunday, rain is still falling around the Karawang area.

He said that as a precautionary measure, the Karawang Police through the Pangkalan Police carried out patrols and direct monitoring in the affected vulnerable areas, especially in the Cibeet river basin (DAS).

The patrol was carried out on Sunday at around 07.30 WIB, located in Bunder Village, Tamansari Village, Pangkalan District, Karawang Regency, involving Aiptu Cecep Samsuri and Brigadier General Eko Apriana Azis personnel.

According to the results of patrols in the field, there was a flood in several points in the southern Karawang area, specifically around the Pangkalan District.

Karawang Police appealed to the public, especially those living around the banks of the Citarum and Cibeet rivers, to continue to increase their vigilance.

The public is also urged to follow official information developments, and immediately report to the authorities if there is a significant increase in water discharge or other emergency conditions.
