Seven Months Passed, GMPG Values the Garut People's Party Tragedy with Minimal Legal Certainty

Garut - The Garut Student and Youth Movement (GMPG) expressed disappointment at the slow handling of the Garut People's Party tragedy which killed three residents and injured dozens of others in July 2025.

GMPG Field Coordinator, Taofik Rofi, assessed that the incident that occurred during the wedding party of the West Java Governor should have been handled quickly, transparently, and responsibly.

"Almost seven months have passed, but the public does not know how far the investigation is going. This concerns human lives," said Taofik.

According to him, although the police have examined 11 witnesses, the lack of further information makes the public wonder.

GMPG also assessed the committee's readiness as minimal, ranging from narrow locations to the absence of mass arrangements.

Taofik emphasized that this tragedy was not merely a technical error, but a reflection of the poor management of public events involving large crowds.

He also highlighted the uncertainty of the responsibility of the West Java Provincial Government in ensuring security and providing assistance to the victims' families.

"The state must not allow time to erase the public's memory. Justice must be upheld," he said.

GMPG stated that it would continue to monitor this case and open the opportunity for further action if there was no significant development in the near future.
