JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump expressed his support for the newly formed Palestinian technocratic government, the National Committee for Gaza Administration.
"As Chairman of the Peace Council, I support the newly appointed Palestinian technocratic government, the National Committee for Gaza Administration, supported by the High Representative of the Council, to govern Gaza during the transition period," Trump said in a post on Truth Social, as reported by Sputnik, Friday, January 16.
"These Palestinian leaders are committed to a future of peace," Trump continued.
Trump also confirmed the start of the transition of the Gaza peace plan to the next phase.
Trump also expressed his belief that, with the support of Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, a comprehensive agreement on a full disarmament of the Palestinian group Hamas would be reached.
"With the support of Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, we will secure a comprehensive Demilitarization Agreement with Hamas, including the surrender of all weapons and the demolition of every tunnel," he said.
The US president stressed that Hamas must immediately fulfill its commitments, including the repatriation of the last body to Israel, and immediately move towards full demilitarization.
"As I have said before, they can do it the easy way, or the hard way," Trump said.
Previously on Wednesday (14/1), Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced the start of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, which includes the establishment of a transitional technocratic government, the disarmament of Hamas, and the transition from a ceasefire to reconstruction in the region.
