BANJARMASIN - The Head of the Banjarmasin City Environment Service, South Kalimantan, Alive Yoesfah Love said that there was an increase in the volume of post-flood waste that had to be handled.

"The increase in waste volume is because the waste from under the house comes out during the flood," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 16.

According to him, the waste stored in various places, mostly from under the houses of residents because the average house in this city is stage-built so that when the tide comes, the waste leaks everywhere.

"It seems to be a lot on the side of the road," he said.

"Large-scale handling is carried out," said Alive to collect and clean the environment from the garbage.

"We will deploy all sanitation officers to handle this post-flood waste problem," he said.

There are three main focus points for this post-flood waste handling action, said Alive, namely in the HKSN Street area in North Banjarmasin, Banua Anyar Street and Veteran Market Street in East Banjarmasin.

Alive appreciates the initiative of Uncle Garbage Cart or garbage transporter from the community, who transports garbage and places it in a higher place during floods since the beginning of this year, so that the garbage does not scatter in the floodwaters.

"Although this condition is quite difficult for us, because there is a lot of garbage piling up. But it's okay, hopefully in the next few days it can be resolved as the flood begins to recede," he explained.

Alive said another trigger for the increase in waste volume was because it was now the fruit season. So it's no wonder that fruit peel waste is found a lot.

"I just appeal to the public to sort out the garbage from the source so that we can solve our garbage problems," he said.

Alive stated that by still throwing away the garbage as a whole without sorting it out will make it difficult.

"At least separate wet garbage or food waste and plastic garbage so that it is easier," he said.
