JAKARTA - A flood of one meter submerged residential areas in Kebon Pala, Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, on Monday morning due to heavy rain.
"The flood is now from noon it has reached one meter here, the rain is still going on," said the Head of RT 13/RW 04 Kampung Melayu Sanusi in Kebon Pala, East Jakarta, Monday.
The water level, which was only about 25 centimeters (cm), continued to rise to one meter during the day.
According to Sanusi, the water began to enter the residential area gradually starting at 08.00 WIB, along with heavy rain that had been pouring since the day before and the overflow of water from the upstream area.
"The water has started to rise since eight o'clock in the morning. Initially about 25 centimeters, now at noon it has been one meter," said Sanusi.
He explained that until now, no residents had been displaced. Most residents are still staying in their respective homes and choose to go upstairs to avoid puddles.
"Residents have not been evacuated, it is still safe to count if this is the case. Everyone is still on the second floor," said Sanusi.
He said that this flood was the first incident in 2026. Previously, in December 2025, the area had been hit by five floods due to heavy rain and overflowed water.
"This is the first flood in 2026. December was already five times flooded," said Sanusi.
As of Monday afternoon, the RT had not officially reported the flood conditions to the village or the East Jakarta Administration City Government.
However, the police unit (Satpol PP) has descended to the flood site to check the field conditions.
Sanusi added that the water level could rise, considering the intensity of the rain that is still occurring and the water discharge that is being monitored through the East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Division.
"The water level seems to be rising. We also continue to monitor it from the SDA," said Sanusi.
However, he hopes that the water will soon recede so that they are not forced to evacuate to a safer place. Local authorities are also asked to remain on alert to anticipate the possibility of flooding spreading further.
Previously, the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that as of Monday afternoon, there were 22 neighborhood units (RT) and 33 streets in Jakarta that were flooded due to high rainfall.
"We are deploying personnel to monitor the condition of the puddles in each area," said Head of the Data and Information Center for Disasters of the DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD, Mohamad Yohan, in Jakarta, Monday.
According to him, as of Monday afternoon, the number of areas in Jakarta that were flooded was expanding, and as of 11.00 WIB, there were 22 RT in South Jakarta, North Jakarta, and East Jakarta that were flooded.
In addition, he said, flooding also flooded 33 roads with a height of 10-54 centimeters (cm) so that drivers of motor vehicles must slow down their vehicles.
