BULUNGAN - The President of the National Dayak Custom Assembly (MADN), Marthin Billa, reminded the people of Jelarai Village in Tanjung Selor District, Bulungan Regency, not to be passive in facing the development activities that continue to move around the capital of North Kalimantan Province (Kaltara), Tanjung Selor.

"The position of the Jelarai village is very close to the provincial and regency government centers of Bulungan, which makes it a strategic area and the main support for the capital. Therefore, the infrastructure development that occurs must be read as an opportunity, not just a physical change," said Marthin Billa who also served as a Senator of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) from Kaltara, Friday, January 9.

"The development is very significant. Because it is close to the capital, it is natural that this area is developed. The impact will definitely be felt by the Jelarai community," he continued.

He emphasized that the benefits of development would not be optimal if the community only waited. Without the active involvement of residents, economic and social opportunities could actually be taken by outsiders.

"The important thing is that the community does not stand still. Do not wait. If we are not active, others will enter and take control of the opportunity," he said.

Marthin also encouraged the residents of Jelarai, which is mostly inhabited by the Dayak tribe, to dare to innovate, develop family economic activities, and open themselves to good ideas and practices from outside the region.

He also hopes that Jelarai Village can develop as an active, adaptive, and capable village that can take a strategic role in the regional development ecosystem.

"Openness is the key so that this village can grow in line with the development of the capital, don't be ashamed to learn from others. If it makes us more advanced, do it. Don't stand in place," he said.
