Attorney General's Office Investigates Alleged Mining Activities in the North Konawe Protected Forest Area

JAKARTA - Investigators from the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) visited the Directorate General of Forestry and Environmental Management, Ministry of Forestry, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna, explained that the activity was carried out in order to match and adjust data related to changes in forest functions, especially protected forest areas in a number of areas.

"Yes, yesterday the Attorney General's investigators visited the Directorate General of Planology. This activity is not a search, but a matching of data for the purpose of investigation," Anang said when confirmed by the media, Thursday, January 8, 2026.

According to Anang, the proactive step of investigators by directly visiting the Ministry of Forestry is aimed at accelerating the process of collecting data and ensuring the suitability of the documents needed in the case being handled.

He said that the matching of data was related to the investigation of the alleged opening of mining activities by two mining companies suspected of entering protected forest areas in North Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The activity is suspected to have occurred as a result of the granting of permits by the then regional head which was not in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

"A number of data and documents needed in the investigation have been provided by the Ministry of Forestry and matched with data owned by investigators," he explained.

Anang added that the entire series of activities went well. The ranks of the Directorate General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management were assessed as cooperative and helped investigators by providing the data needed.

"This activity is a continuation of efforts to improve forest governance, so that the management of Indonesian forests in the future will be more orderly and sustainable," concluded Anang.
