SEMARANG - The Central Java Provincial Government has inventoried 349 buses and 20 trains to serve the Lebaran 2026 homecoming and return.
Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno said the homecoming and return to the region program was a routine annual agenda that continued to be evaluated from year to year.
According to him, the fleet will continue to be strengthened until it matches the previous period, namely 383 bus units.
"Until now we still have homework, because the existing fleet is still below 2025, but we are trying to be at least the same and hopefully there will be additional ones," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 7.
This was conveyed by him when leading a follow-up coordination meeting with representatives of regencies/cities, SOEs, BUMD, and business elements regarding the preparation of the 2026 Free Eid Homecoming Program.
He explained that the coordination meeting aimed to ensure the readiness of all parties in facilitating the people of Central Java so that they can return home and return to their hometowns safely and comfortably.
Apart from strengthening the fleet, he continued, input also came from the mudik and balik rantau participants' association regarding the addition of departure points and destinations.
In response to this, the Central Java Provincial Government will carry out mapping based on the distribution of participants' domicile so that the departure point can be close to the location of people's residence.
'With a closer point, the public does not need to add costs to get to the departure location. This is also part of our effort to provide the best service', he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Java Transportation Service, Arief Djatmiko, said that he would review the points for departure and return to the region in 2026.
"We have actually done a re-mapping, mainly for free regional participants," he said.
He gave an example of departure from the Donohudan Hajj Dormitory in Boyolali Regency with satellite points in Sragen, Karanganyar, Wonogiri and Klaten, while the Mangkang Type A Terminal has satellite points in Jepara and Blora.
Terminal Type A Bulupitu Banyumas is equipped with satellite points in Cilacap Regency, Kebumen, Banjarnegara and Purbalingga.
The free Lebaran homecoming program is planned to be carried out on March 16-17, 2026, with the departure location being at the Purna Bhakti Pertiwi Museum in East Jakarta, PT Dirgantara Indonesia Bandung and Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta.
As for the plan to implement free return to the region, it will be carried out on March 27-28, 2026.
Registration of participants for the 2026 Eid Homecoming Free via bus will be opened on February 4, 2026, while for the train on February 11, 2026.
