JAKARTA - Ambassador Husam Zomlot said the inauguration of the Palestinian Embassy in London was a monumental moment, thanking the British Government, calling it a turning point in relations between the two countries.
The status of the Palestinian representative in the British capital officially changed to an embassy on Monday, following Britain's recognition of the State of Palestine last September.
"A turning point in the UK-Palestinian relationship, and an important milestone in the long journey of the Palestinian people towards freedom and self-determination. The solidarity of the British people has helped us reach this point and will be crucial in the long journey ahead," tweeted Ambassador Zomlot in a post on the social media X, as quoted (7/1).
Ambassador Zomlot also thanked the British Government and Minister for the Middle East Affairs Hamish Falconer.
"I hope to strengthen our bilateral cooperation and advance efforts towards a just and lasting peace," he said.
Ambassador Zomlot marked the inauguration of the Palestinian Embassy by presenting the official embassy plaque on Monday, after the completion of all the official and necessary protocols of the two countries, quoted from WAFA.

The new sign replaces the previous designation of "Palestinian Mission to the UK" to "Embassy of the State of Palestine", which reflects the full diplomatic status of the embassy.
Previously, after the British recognition of the State of Palestine, the Palestinian flag officially flew in the yard of the Palestinian representative mission in London last September.
In his speech to senior British officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the Palestinian community, Ambassador Zomlot, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people, expressed his gratitude, stressing that this inauguration is the result of the Palestinian people's 100-year-long struggle.
"This is a day of hope, a day of determination, and a day that reminds the world that peace is not only possible, but also inevitable, when it is rooted in justice, dignity, and equality," Ambassador Zomlot said.
He described the inauguration as recognition of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to state sovereignty and equality among nations.
"This embassy is proof that our identity cannot be denied, our presence cannot be erased, and our lives cannot be underestimated," he explained.
"For a nation that was denied the right to self-determination for more than a century, this is a monumental moment. Today, the Palestinian community in the UK has a second home - a piece of Palestine in British soil," said Ambassador Zomlot.
On that occasion, Ambassador Zomlot reiterated Palestine's commitment to a just and lasting peace based on international law, the end of the Israeli occupation, and the fulfillment of the rights of Palestinian refugees.
The ceremony was attended by the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, senior FCDO officials, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as leaders and members of the Palestinian community in the UK.
