Today, the Corruption Court Reads the Rp2.1 Trillion Corruption Accusation against Nadiem

JAKARTA - The Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court has confirmed that the reading of the indictment against the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim in the alleged corruption case for the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026.

This certainty was conveyed by the Chairman of the Panel of Judges Purwanto S. Abdullah in the previous trial, Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The panel of judges ordered the Public Prosecutor (JPU) to present the defendant on that schedule.

"The panel of judges agreed to order the JPU to present the defendant on Monday, January 5, 2026," said Purwanto.

Nadiem's legal advisor, Ari Yusuf, confirmed that his client would attend the trial in person even though he was still in the post-operative recovery phase.

"He will attend the trial, even though he is still in treatment," said Ari when confirmed.

The reading of the indictment against Nadiem had previously been postponed twice due to health conditions. Nadiem is known to have been undergoing treatment at the hospital for approximately 21 days after undergoing surgery.

Based on the statement of the medical team, Nadiem was declared healthy enough to attend the trial on January 2, 2026. However, the panel of judges gave an additional deadline until January 5, 2026.

In December 2025, the panel of judges had ordered the JPU to first read the indictment against the other three defendants in this case. They are Ibrahim Arief, a former technology consultant in the environment of the Ministry of Education and Culture; Mulyatsyah, Director of SMP Kemendikbudristek 2020-2021 and also the Budget User Authority (KPA); and Sri Wahyuningsih, Director of Elementary School Kemendikbudristek 2020-2021 who also served as KPA.

In the case of the procurement of Chromebook laptops, the defendants are suspected of having caused a financial loss to the state of around IDR 2.1 trillion. Nadiem and other defendants are accused of violating Article 2 (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code. 1.
