Police Say There is No Tolerance for Gangsterism and Violence

JAKARTA - Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, emphasized that there was no tolerance for gangsterism and violence, especially against small traders.

"We will take firm action against any form of intimidation and violence in accordance with the law," Budi said in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday, responding to the beating and persecution of kukusan traders in the East Flood Canal (BKT) area, East Jakarta, on Thursday (25/12).

Budi explained that the two suspects with initials SA (36) and SH (52) were arrested at different locations, SA was arrested in Mustika Jaya, Bekasi, while SR was arrested at the BKT Cipinang Indah Bridge on Wednesday (31/12/2025).

"In this case, the police seized a machete and arrested the two perpetrators under Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning robbery in conjunction with Article 351 of the Criminal Code concerning persecution," he said.

Budi also ensured that every public report would be followed up quickly and professionally by the National Police.

The East Jakarta Metro Police revealed the role of two men with initials SA and SH in the case of persecution against a trader in the East Jakarta Canal Flood Bank (BKT), East Jakarta (Jaktim).

"For this SA, his role is to ask or collect money from traders, while SH commits acts of violence so that the victim is injured," said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Alfian Nurrizal when confirmed in Jakarta, Thursday.

Both perpetrators have been secured after the case went viral on social media and sparked public attention.

Alfian explained that SA and SH had different roles in the incident that led to the victim's injuries.

From the results of the preliminary investigation, SA was suspected of being the party who often asked for money from traders under the guise of "service money". When charging, SA was also said to have carried a sharp weapon.

"This SA's role is to collect or ask for services by carrying sharp weapons," said Alfian.
