JAKARTA - Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has appealed against a decision by the Malaysian High Court to reject his request to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home.

As reported by ANTARA, a member of Najib Razak's legal team, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, said that the notice of appeal had been submitted to the Court of Appeal on December 24, 2025, or two days after the Malaysian High Court's ruling was read on December 22, 2025.

For information, Najib Razak has applied for house arrest status related to the case of embezzlement of funds amounting to RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Najib said the granting of house arrest status was based on the document of the statement (titah adendum) of the 16th King of Malaysia, which was not presented in the Malaysian Pardon Council session.

In the SRC International case, Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of RM210 million. The sentence was later reduced to six years in prison and a fine of RM50 million.

Meanwhile, in another case, namely the case of abuse of power and bribery related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Najib Razak was found guilty of 25 charges with a total sentence of 15 years in prison, as well as a fine of RM11.4 billion (Rp47.1 trillion).

The judge said Najib Razak - who is now 72 - must serve his sentence in the 1MDB case after he completed his sentence in the SRC International case.

Najib's legal team also stated that the appeal efforts related to the 1MDB case would be filed immediately after his party received an official court order for verification purposes.
