Bantul Police Order Vehicles to Stop on the Shoulder of the Kabanaran Bridge

BANTUL - The Transportation Service of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, reprimanded and disciplined vehicles that stopped on the shoulder of the Kabanaran Bridge during the long Christmas holiday 2025 until the New Year's holiday 2026.

"We are carrying out a crackdown on vehicles that stop along the Kabanaran Bridge, because some drivers stop to take photos and selfies on the bridge," said Head of the Bantul Transportation Service Singgih Riyadi, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 29.

There are about 20 vehicles that were given a warning and disciplined by the Bantul Transportation Service personnel, the majority of vehicles that stopped on the shoulder of the bridge if seen from the number plate come from the DIY area.

"Yes, maybe they (drivers and passengers) just refreshing, photos, selfies with the bridge view. But if you stop at the bridge clothes, it's dangerous," he said.

Therefore, the Bantul Police continue to give advice to road users who pass through the Kabanaran Bridge which connects the southern region between Bantul and Kulon Progo to continue to comply with traffic rules.

It is explained, if the public wants to enjoy the charm of the Kabanaran Bridge on the southern cross-road (JJLS) route from the direction of Bantul Regency, it is recommended to park vehicles at the former Pandansimo Terminal.

"The former Pandansimo Terminal has an area for parking vehicles," he said.

Dishub said that in general, the traffic flow on the Kabanaran Bridge, which is an icon of tourism on the south coast of DIY, is quite smooth, although a number of vehicles are still found stopping on the bridge's shoulders.

He said, even unfortunately, road users on the Kabanaran Bridge stopped for sale, even though vehicles were not allowed to stop on the shoulders of the road, let alone for trading activities.

Therefore, the Bantul Transportation Office continues to monitor and enforce to provide education, and chase away road users who stop on the bridge shoulders, especially during the long holiday period at the end of the year.

"Vehicles that stop on the shoulder of the road, besides causing congestion, also add static load to the Kabanaran Bridge. So it is very dangerous for the durability of the bridge," he said.
