JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has donated 14 operational fire service vehicles (damkar) owned by the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) to 14 local governments outside Jakarta.
The handover of 14 fire trucks was symbolically carried out by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung with representatives of the local government in 14 districts/cities that received grants.
The areas include the cities of Bekasi, Semarang, South Tangerang, Ambon, Padang Panjang, South Minahasa Regency, Kediri Regency, Purbalingga Regency, Pesawaran Regency, Cianjur Regency, Poso Regency, West Coast Regency, Minahasa Regency, and Karo Regency.
Pramono explained the background of the DKI Provincial Government handing over the fire truck grant which was previously operated by the Gulkarmat Service. According to Pramono, there are still many areas that need operational vehicles for officers to put out fires in their areas.
"I see that the needs in the area are very large. Often with efinsiensi and so on, if you have to hold a new unit, it will definitely be a burden on the area," said Pramono at the National Monument area, Monday, December 29.
Pramono explained that the fire truck grant was last carried out in 2022 and is currently being rolled out again in the midst of the region's need for adequate firefighting fleets. He ensured that all vehicles donated were still operational.
"The condition of the donated fire extinguishers has certainly received optimal checks. There are 14 vehicles, consisting of 2 vehicles with 10,000 liters, 8 vehicles with 4,000 liters, and 4 vehicles with 2,500 liters," said Pramono.
Pramono hopes that the grant will not only stop at the handover of assets, but continue in cooperation to increase human resource capacity. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, he said, opened opportunities for recipient areas to carry out fire training in Jakarta.
"We want cooperation like this not only to be handed over. If you, Madam, brothers and sisters want to hold a fire drill in Jakarta, we will gladly accept it," explained Pramono.
Furthermore, Pramono assessed the role of firefighters in big cities such as Jakarta is quite high. With a large population and high daily mobility, Jakarta faces various emergency situations that require quick and trained responses.
Meanwhile, the complexity of Jakarta makes the fire service often handle incidents outside of its main duties, ranging from disturbances of public facilities to requests for citizen assistance in unusual situations.
"Including if there is a jammed ATM card, the one who is called is the fire department. Including I have experienced it myself, there are pregnant mothers who are pregnant in the stomach by the fire department. That's Jakarta, how complex it is and how extraordinary the fire department is," he said.
