Ahead of New Year's Eve, Madiun City Police-Jatim raided Petasan

Madiun - The Madiun City Police, East Java, carried out a petasan raid to create a conducive situation of order and security and foster empathy for disasters in the country ahead of the 2026 New Year's Eve celebration.

"This petasan raid targets distributor stores and street vendors selling fireworks in the Madiun City area," said Public Relations Officer of the Madiun City Police, Iptu Ubaidillah, in Madiun, Friday.

According to him, in addition to creating a conducive situation and a sense of empathy for disaster victims, the raid also followed up on the prohibition on the circulation of firecrackers and fireworks with a diameter of more than 2 inches.

The ban is regulated in the Regulation of the National Police Chief Number 17 of 2021 concerning the Circulation of Commercial Explosives. The regulation regulates the prohibition of the circulation of firecrackers as well as restrictions on the use of fireworks with explosive materials above 20 grams and a diameter of more than 2 inches.

"For the use and sale of large fireworks, the public concerned must apply for permission to the Governor's Office," he said.

During the raid, his party also asked the seller to ask for the identity of the buyer, if anyone made a purchase of more than 40 pieces or 10 doses of fireworks.

Ubaidillah added that in the fireworks raid, no traders were found selling fireworks above a diameter of 2 inches and a content of more than 20 grams.

Madiun City Police urged the public, especially parents, to supervise children in playing fireworks. This can be dangerous if playing alone without supervision.

In addition, the Madiun City Police also conveyed socialization to the public to report to the police if they know that there are residents who violate the sale of firecrackers or fireworks outside the provisions.
