JAKARTA - The United States is increasingly vulnerable as China's military power increases, according to the 2025 Report to Congress on Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China by the US Department of War (Pentagon).

"China's historic military buildup has made US territory more vulnerable. China maintains a large and growing arsenal of nuclear, maritime, long-range conventional, cyber, and space capabilities that can directly threaten American security," the report said, as quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Wednesday, December 24.

China's military has made steady progress toward its 2027 goals, including a "decisive strategic victory" over Taiwan, a "strategic balancer" with the US in the nuclear and other fields, and "strategic deterrence and containment" of regional rivals, according to the report.

China's armed forces are conducting 2024 exercises that simulate naval invasions, missile attacks, and potential blockades, the Pentagon said. The report said these attacks cover an area that reaches a distance of 1,500 to 2,000 nautical miles from the Chinese coast.

"If carried out in sufficient numbers, these attacks could seriously challenge and disrupt the US presence in or around conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region," the report added.

In November, Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, told the Politico newspaper that China was open to forging deeper military ties with the United States on an equal footing, provided Washington fulfilled its promise "not to seek to contain China or trigger conflict."
