JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) conducted environmental audits on 100 business units in Aceh, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) following the flood disaster in several areas in Sumatra some time ago.

"We will conduct this environmental audit on more than 100 business units in North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh," said Minister of Environment (Minister of Environment), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 23.

Hanif emphasized that the audit process could take up to one year. However, the audit will be focused first on companies that are considered to have a major impact.

"The important thing is that we will ask the big ones to be completed in March," he said.

According to the Minister of LH, this audit serves to determine a measurable sanction for business units related to natural disasters.

"Whether with a criminal approach, whether with a civil lawsuit approach or with administrative sanctions, the government will be forced. So, there are 3 multi-disciplinary sanctions that will be taken by the Ministry of Environment," he said.

Minister Hanif revealed that his party had conducted an audit in the Batang Toru river basin, North Sumatra in the last two weeks.

"So, in the Batang Toru River Basin, as we have said, there are 8-9 business units that are currently being investigated by the Ministry of Environment. To all of them, we have given administrative sanctions to force the government to stop activities and environmental audits," he said.

In the West Sumatra region, he continued, field verification has been carried out to 17 business entities from around 50 business units.

"There are cement activities (factories), then mines, there are housing, there are oil palm plantations. We are currently verifying 17 of about 50 fields," said the Minister of LH.
