JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the Indonesian climate condition in 2026 is expected to be relatively more stable and not as extreme as in 2024 which is characterized by high temperatures and prolonged extreme weather.

BMKG Deputy for Climatology Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan said that the stability of the climate was influenced by the end of the weak La Nina phenomenon in the first quarter of 2026.

"Our prediction shows that after March 2026, global climate conditions will return to a neutral phase and last until the end of the year," said Ardhasena at a press conference on the 2026 Climate Outlook, which was attended in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 23.

The average national air temperature in 2026 is estimated to be in the range of 25 to 29 degrees Celsius, still within the normal climatological range.

BMKG noted that the average national temperature in 2026 will not exceed the record heat as in 2024, due to the temporary cooling effect due to a weak La Nina.

In addition, the sea conditions around Indonesian territory, both in the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, are predicted to be more stable so as to reduce the potential for extreme weather anomalies.

Ardhasena added that the climate projection was compiled through atmospheric and ocean physics modeling combined with the use of artificial intelligence.

BMKG urges the government and the public to use this climate information as a basis for planning in various sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, and spatial planning.
