JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) together with President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidin ensured the readiness of train services during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 (Nataru) transportation.

"We discussed together, the point is that we want to convince that multi-modal transportation, land, sea, air and of course including our train can really be optimally presented to the public," said AHY during a working visit to Gambir Station, Jakarta, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

He said that the field visit was carried out at Gambir Station to directly review operational readiness, discuss technical strategic issues, and ensure that all aspects of train transportation services run optimally for the community.

On that occasion, AHY together with the KAI ranks also released the departure of the Cakra Buwana train route from Gambir to Cirebon and greeted passengers who chose the train transportation mode.

He emphasized that safety remained the main priority for the implementation of train services, followed by the timeliness of travel and passenger comfort, which have been the advantages and commitments of KAI.

He also encouraged continued collaboration with KAI to improve service quality, including the implementation of a 30 percent discount on fares for around 1.5 million passengers during the Christmas and New Year period.

Furthermore, AHY also said, based on KAI's report, there was an increase in the frequency of train travel of around 8.5 percent compared to the previous year, as well as an increase in seating capacity of 3 percent or around 3.5 million seats.

In addition, AHY emphasized the importance of anticipating technical factors and weather conditions that must be the main concern, considering the potential increase in rainfall at the end of 2025 to January 2026 based on the BMKG warning.

"KAI Christmas and New Year's Eve posts are active 24 hours a day, to serve passengers and until later we predict that there will be very busy dates with an increase in the peak season in December 2025 and also in January 2026 when people return from Christmas and New Year's holidays," added AHY.

At the same place, President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidin said that the occupancy rate of travel had reached 83 percent with the peak demand estimated to occur on December 28, 2025 and the main return flow will take place on January 3 and 4, 2026 nationwide.

Bobby admitted that his party was ready to provide the best service to the public by prioritizing safety as number one, on time performance (OTP) and improving customer service quality consistently, as directed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment.

He emphasized that operational readiness was applied to the maximum extent to ensure safe, reliable and timely travel during the Christmas and New Year period.

KAI also ensures that train lines in disaster-prone areas have been optimally mitigated to ensure the safety of travel and the smooth running of transportation during the year-end holidays.

Bobby said that the vulnerable points of disasters had been thoroughly identified and mitigated through the improvement of railway infrastructure so that train operations would remain reliable during extreme weather and high rainfall intensity.
