Vice President Gibran Visits Bersehati Market in Manado, Checks Food Prices, Wholesale Chili and Fish

MANADO - Deputy President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka directly reviewed the Bersehati Traditional Market, Manado City, North Sulawesi Province, to ensure the stability of prices and availability of food items ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year celebrations, Tuesday, December 23.

During the visit, the Vice President was accompanied by the Governor of North Sulawesi Yulius Selvanus and the Mayor of Manado Andrei Angouw.

The Vice President toured the market to see firsthand the trading activities as well as having a dialogue with traders regarding the development of the prices of basic necessities, such as red chilies, tomatoes, onions, garlic, fish, and rice.

In addition to dialogue, Gibran also took the time to buy cayenne pepper, curly red chili, red onions, and buy a number of fish as a form of support for traditional market traders.

Director of Perumda Pasar Bersehati Manado Lucky Senduk said the market atmosphere became more crowded than usual following the Vice President's visit.

The market management works together with the TNI and Polri to increase security during the visit.

"We see that the public's enthusiasm is very high with the Vice President's visit, as well as the traders who are there," said Lucky as reported by Antara.

He said that in general, the prices of basic necessities at the Bersehati Market are still in normal condition. If there is an increase, he said, it is still considered reasonable because it is influenced by market mechanisms ahead of religious holidays.

Meanwhile, the prices of a number of commodities at the Manado Bersehati Market, including red chili peppers around Rp. 45,000 per kilogram, tomatoes Rp. 6,000 per kilogram, red onions Rp. 65,000 per kilogram, and garlic Rp. 40,000 per kilogram.

One of the traders at the Bersehati Market, Ramlah, said he was happy with the Vice President's visit, which he considered to show the government's concern for the condition of traditional market traders.

"We are happy because the Vice President cares about traders and immediately buys our goods," said Ramlah.
