JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) anticipates a surge in community movement during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays, especially in tourist areas which are expected to be the main destination for visitors from outside Jakarta.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, said that a number of destinations had been mapped as points of density, ranging from Ragunan, Monas, Ancol, to the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area. In addition, Setu Babakan, Old Town, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) will be crowded with tourists.
"We anticipate that there will be tourist locations in Jakarta that will be tourist destinations for people from outside Jakarta to visit (during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holiday period)," Syafrin told reporters, Thursday, December 18.
Syafrin explained that his party would prioritize traffic arrangements around the tourist area through the implementation of traffic management and engineering that is adjusted to the field conditions.
Syafri said cross-agency coordination had been carried out to anticipate the potential for visitor density that could impact vehicle traffic, especially at certain times.
"So of course we have coordinated how to arrange traffic if there is a crowd related to public visits to these tourist locations," said Syafrin.
Furthermore, DKI's Dishub also activated a support fleet to support the smooth flow of traffic during the holiday period.
A total of dozens of operational vehicles are spread out at strategic points. The details are 80 units of tow trucks are on standby for service, 46 cars will patrol, and 2 units
"In total, there are about 80 units of cranes that will later be focused on service. Including 46 patrol cars. There are also 2 units of VMS mobile that will later arrange, provide information to the public regarding how to arrange if there is a crowd," he explained.
The traffic engineering scheme is situational and can change according to the level of density. "For example, as an example in Ragunan, we will see that the situation may be in the morning rush hour, one direction to enter the Ragunan area and the evening it will usually be set in one direction. So we continue to monitor this in the field," continued Syafrin.
In addition to the density of tourists, Dishub is also aware of the extreme weather factor which is predicted to occur until early 2026. This is part of the readiness during the long holiday period.
"According to the BMKG's forecast that in December and January there will be extreme weather. Extreme rain and of course we have all coordinated well and are ready to face what conditions," concluded Syafrin.
