Prabowo asks 2,500 SPPG to operate throughout Papua in August 2026

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto asked the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, to operationalize as many as 2,500 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) so that they can serve Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) beneficiaries throughout Papua on August 17, 2026.

When giving an explanation to regional heads throughout Papua at the State Palace, Jakarta, Prabowo received a report from the Head of BGN about the operational target of 2,500 SPPG throughout Papua could be realized in March 2026.

However, the president understands that the geography and field conditions in Papua autonomy are not easy to achieve in the next three months, from now there are 179 SPPGs that have been operating.

"You say March, but we understand that the physical condition is not easy to work with that target. But we are ready if there is a setback. I think what is clear is that we hope August, we hope August 17, 2026 for Papua, all 2,500 SPPGs are already functioning," said Prabowo as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 16.

When giving directions, the president said, priority programs will be realized in all provinces of Papua, including MBG for early childhood, high school students and pregnant women.

The head of BGN also reported that as of December 16, 2025, 179 SPPGs had been operating, with 65 SPPGs in Papua, 42 SPPGs in West Papua, 8 SPPGs in South Papua, 30 SPPGs in Central Papua, 5 SPPGs in Papua Mountains, and 28 SPPGs in South West Papua.

The budget needs allocated by BGN to increase up to 2,500 SPPG targeting 750 thousand beneficiaries, is estimated to reach Rp. 25 trillion. Dadan said that the estimated budget was certainly higher than the MBG program on the island of Java.

"So if 750,000 (beneficiaries) are in Java, it will be Rp7.5 trillion, so for Papua it will likely reach around 25 trillion Pak, the money for the Nutrition Agency (National) will go to Papua. Price of luxury, luxury index, Pak," said Dadan.

The briefing on accelerating the development of Papua was attended by 40 regents/mayors, 6 governors and 10 members of the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development (Otsus) Papua.
